Bridport Area Neighbourhood Plan
Bridport Area Neighbourhood Plan

Community, Education & Culture Facilities

Below is the newly proposed Objective that will now cover Community, Education & Culture Facilities  and we would ask for your comments on this. We have included a feedback section to allow you to reply and update us on your thoughts:

Objective:

To protect our excellent community facilities including education, health, cultural, sport and leisure facilities.  To increase their range and availability where these bring benefits to our community.  To make sure that these facilities are accessible to all, including those living in the more rural parts of the plan area.

To achieve this, we are going to:

Identify and map all existing community facilities (buildings and spaces) and identify service providers.

Identify current standards in community facilities applied locally / nationally.

Review existing levels of provision and accessibility, and assess these against current standards

Undertake survey of customers / providers to ascertain needs / plans.

From this evidence produce a 'community assets' report setting out those facilities that should be protected and future requirements

Community assets can include:

  • Community halls and meeting venues - including places of worship and youth centres
  • Cultural facilities - such as arts centres, libraries and museums
  • Daily facilities - local shops, cash machines, post offices, public houses
  • Education and training facilities - including pre-school and adult education
  • Emergency services – fire and rescue, coastguard, police, ambulance
  • Healthcare/social service facilities - such as doctors’ surgeries and dental practices, pharmacies, day-care centres and hospitals
  • Sport and recreation facilities - indoor and outdoor sporting venues, open space of public value such as parks, cemeteries etc.
